1990 TIGER/Line Block Group Boundaries by State

These are ARC/INFO polygon coverages of the 1990 Census TIGER/Line block groups organized by state. The coverages contain no statistical information; they provide only the BOUNDARIES of block groups. Each block group is identified by a 12-digit number composed of state, county, and block group number. This 12-digit identifier is used to link the block group polygons with statistical data such as total population. (See the coverage documentation for details.)

A coverage of 1990 generalized block group boundaries for the conterminous United States also is available.

[For the 1994 NAWQA study units, population data already have been linked to the block group polygons. See the study unit block group coverages with associated population and population density.]

[For 1997 study units, if you need to compile block group boundaries, you could use the coverage of GIRAS land use updated with 1990 population prepared for the study unit. These have polygons identified by block group. Dissolve on BGI to derive the block group boundaries.]

Before retrieving a file, please note the file size. If you are using Mosaic, the size of your /tmp directory must be large enough to hold the temporary file that Mosaic creates as it downloads the file. If your /tmp directory is not large enough to hold the file you want, possible workarounds are included in the instructions for downloading files.
