About the Aquifer

The Basin and Range aquifer system consists primarily of unconsolidated basin-fill aquifers bounded by consolidated rock mountain ranges and fractured carbonate-rock aquifers. It underlies parts of Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Idaho, and California and is ranked third in withdrawals for domestic and public drinking-water supply among the principal aquifer systems selected for investigation during NAWQA cycle II. Three NAWQA study units overly the Basin and Range Aquifers.
