RMA: Using MODPATH

MODPATH can be used to help determine whether water from the disposal pond will reach either of the two production wells. First activate MODPATH in the Packages and Programs dialog box.

1.Select "Model|MODFLOW Packages and Programs..."

2.Expand Post processors and check the checkbox for MODPATH.

3.Go to the Simulation File Options tab and change the Output mode to Pathlines.

4.Make sure MODPATH version is set to 6.

5.Go to the Version 6 & 7 options tab and change End of particle tracking (StopOption) to "Stop at termination points (steady-state) (2)."

6.Click OK to close the dialog box.

Next select the object that represents the disposal pond and use it to define the starting particle locations for MODPATH. You changed its name to "Disposal_Pond" in a previous topic.

1.Select "Object|Show or Hide Objects."

2.Expand All Objects.

3.Double click on the Disposal_Pond object to open the Object Properties dialog box.

4.Go to the MODFLOW Features tab and select the MODPATH pane..

5.Check the check box for Initial particle placement and change Number of rows in the X direction to 6.

6.Click OK to close the dialog box.

Six particles will now be created in each of the well cells.

Next run MODPATH and display the results.

1.Select File|Export|MODPATH Input Files and then click the Save button.

After MODFLOW has finished running, Import the model results.

1.Select Data|Data Visualization... and select MODPATH Pathlines.

2.Click on the button in the box for the MODPATH Pathline file.

3.Select the MODPATH Pathline file.

4.Click OK.

The pathlines should now be displayed.
