Modeling and Software
Hydrologic modeling and analysis tools are important components of NAWQA studies. The types of modeling and analysis tools that play a large role in NAWQA include:
- Statistical models and analyses
- Geographic information system (GIS) analyses
- Process-based models
- Hybrid statistical, GIS, and process-based models
Some specific applications of hydrologic systems analysis tools:

The use of a hybrid statistical, GIS, and process-based model (SPARROW) to estimate nutrient fluxes in unmonitored streams throughout the conterminous United States.
- The use of a hybrid statistical / GIS model (WARP) to estimate pesticide concentrations for unmonitored streams throughout the conterminous United States.
