Surface hydrology and terrain analysis of Guam

Institute: Guam
Year Established: 2025 Start Date: 2026-01-01 End Date: 2026-12-31
Total Federal Funds: $30,117 Total Non-Federal Funds: Not available

Principal Investigators: University of Guam

Project Summary: Guam stakeholders needs detailed fundamental and advanced surface hydrology maps to determine best strategies for development and protecting resources. This project will produce an intuitive interactive online and printed map of a refined surface hydrologic system and boundaries of Guam that compliments its geologic structure. This will be done with the latest digital elevation model (DEM), using refined spatial analysis methods. The investigator will update the northern Guam's limestone section with the latest DEM and couple that with the newly updated southern Guam hydrologic system to create a complete island hydrologic map. The map will expose flood zones, vulnerabilities, and layout urban runoff, helping agencies like the EPA and Army Corps of Engineers advise on infrastructure, reduce risks, and protect its resources. The product map will give stakeholders?clear information to make smarter decisions about keeping Guam's valuable resources safe and sustainable as the island pursues to modernize.
