Project Summary: Temporarily flooded wetlands are important for regulating water, cycling nutrients, and supporting biodiversity. However, these seasonal wetlands are threatened by human activities, climate change, and reduced legal protections. Despite their value, there is no comprehensive map of temporary wetlands in South Carolina. To address this, we propose creating a Temporary Wetland Atlas for the state, focusing on major river basins and using data from the Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US). This digital atlas will catalog wetland locations, helping stakeholders identify key areas for conservation and restoration.
