Project Summary: Since 2009, the West Virginia Water Research Institute has been leading the long-term Three Rivers Quest (3RQ) monitoring and reporting program. In that time, there has not been a substantial analysis of the water quality data. We propose evaluating this and other existing datasets to quantify downstream impacts of acid mine drainage. Outcomes of this research are expected to show benefits of long-term data water data which will help justify continued support and growth of the 3RQ program. We will quantify the downstream impacts of both centralized (i.e., Muddy Creek) and dissociated (Lambert Run) acid mine drainage (AMD) treatment strategies. Results will be shared with public community partners and governmental regulatory agencies at the state and federal level.
