Physical modeling of vegetated fluvial systems: examining the flow-vegetation coupling through realistic plant analogues and their role on hyporheic exchange

Institute: Idaho
Year Established: 2023 Start Date: 2023-09-01 End Date: 2024-08-31
Total Federal Funds: $39,000 Total Non-Federal Funds: $39,000

Principal Investigators: Gianluca Blois

Project Summary: The overarching goal of this research is to understand how the flexibility of aquatic plants alters the dynamics of flow and pressure at the bed interface, as well as above and below. We hypothesize that the flow dynamics induced by a swaying plant are fundamentally different from those induced by a rigid one.
