Project Summary: The NYSWRI recently identified a set of priority areas representing critical water resource challenges across the state of New York. These include 1) assessing government infrastructure programs; 2) flooding and resilience to extreme weather events and climate change; 3) water resource literacy; and 4) harmful algal blooms. These critical issues represent research opportunities, as well educational opportunities for students who are interested in local to regional resource analysis and management. The NYSWRI Internship Program engages four to six undergraduate and graduate students a year with the goal of educating them in trans-disciplinary research, encouraging them to develop independent critical thinking skills, and producing analyses and outreach materials that further the mission of NYSWRI and the state of the art in water resource disciplines.
