Project Summary: Each year the West Virginia Water Research Institute (WVWRI) sponsors or co-sponsors a water conference of either state or regional scope. These conferences bring together a diverse and interested cross section of stakeholders to share in a variety of water-related research initiatives, policy implementation, and technological advancements. As such, these conferences provide a forum for interested parties to engage in a constructive and respectful dialogue about the future one of our most vital resources: water. For 2018, the WVWRI plans to hold a state conference in Morgantown, West Virginia. The focus will be on water-related issues deemed critical by experts in the field who serve on the West Virginia Advisory Committee for Water Research. Members of this Committee will serve on the conference planning committee. Members include representatives from the US Geological Survey, WV Department of Environmental Protection, US Army Corps of Engineers, WV Coal Association, US Environmental Protection Agency, WV Division of Natural Resources, WV Bureau for Public Health, US Department of Energy, WV Conservation Agency, US Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement, electric power industry, and natural gas industry. Conference objectives include: 1) providing attendees with an awareness of impacts on the State's water resources; 2) providing attendees with awareness of on-going research that addresses the State's water-related issues; 3) providing attendees with an awareness of related on-going legislation and policy; 4) inform policy development, and 5) networking opportunity for the State's water stakeholders.
