Abstract: This research will provide a greater understanding of the specific relationship between the riparian habitats and streambank erosion based on the geology of the streambank by building upon field work completed for the Triplett Creek Watershed Based Plan. The objectives will be 1) to document streambank erosion, 2) to correlate streambank erosion with riparian habitat, 3) to disseminate field research to a wider audience (volunteers, planners, local policy makers, and educators), and 4) to provide cross-disciplinary research opportunities for students. The scope of the research will include photographing and mapping eroding streambanks, completing a modified bank erosion index form for each site, measuring riparian habitat using aerial maps, and ground truthing.
