Abstract: Our objective, for this proposal, is to further characterize environmental factors that determine the productivity of Culex spp. mosquitoes in stormwater retention structures. We believe that this research addresses a critical issue: do stormwater management planning decisions have unintended impacts on public health by influencing the production of mosquito vectors in urban wetlands in Illinois? Specific questions we propose to address will include: (1) What are the relationships between species composition and management of macrophytes in retention basins with water quality and mosquito production? (2) How do water quality parameters in stormwater retention basins influence development and survival of juvenile and fitness of adult mosquitoes?
