Abstract: Pharmaceuticals and personal care products are emerging contaminants of concern to drinking water supplies and aquatic ecosystems. This proposal addresses the ability of the soil microbial community to remove commonly occurring compounds, 17β-estradiol, estrone, estriol, and 17α-ethinylestradiol, ciprofloxacin, triclosan and ibuprofen from wastewater effluent prior to entering the groundwater or surface waters.
