Project Summary: This proposal is a request for enhancement funds to support ongoing long-term water quality monitoring programs of the UNH Center for Freshwater Biology (the NH Lakes Lay Monitoring Program) and allow for supplemental sampling add-ons to collect and analyze for additional testing (specifically Nitrogen species)to nutrient water budgets being done under external funding. These studies are follow- up studies (about 10 years post) in watersheds experiencing increased development. The cost-effective addition of N data for the studies will allow for the wider application of the results, add data to our on-going long-term investigations and help predict landscape change impacts to N limited systems such as rivers and coastal waters. N species analysis can also assist in source tracking the particular NPS sources that are problematic. The support will allow for undergraduate and graduate student participation and the project results will integrate into our outreach, education and information transfer programs already established.
