Abstract: This project proposes to study the in-stream interaction of upland sediment supply upon cohesive streambank erosion within the controlled setting of the Hydrosystems Laboratory located at the University of Kentucky, Department of Civil Engineering. This research will be conducted in the laboratory so that numerous parameters governing the streambank erosion process (e.g., turbulent eddy movement, water acidity, sediment organic matter content) may be fixed or controlled while the impact of upland supply upon the streambank is assessed. This investigation is expected to provide a better understanding of the importance of upland sediment supply upon streambank erosion, specifically for flow and sediment conditions typical of Kentucky watersheds.
