Abstract: Through the proposed sampling program, we hope to isolate the major bacterial sources along Red Duck Creek and identify sections of the stream requiring corrective steps to reduce or prevent public exposure to high bacterial levels. This information will supplement work already underway by the City of Mayfield for planning, design, and implementation of flood control and other creek restoration measures. The field data collection, laboratory analyses, and data evaluation will provide a research experience to undergraduate students in the environmental engineering technology program at Murray State University. The final report will include maps and/or aerial photographs showing sampling locations, the relative coliform levels at each location, relevant tables and figures, and conclusions and recommendations on potential bacterial sources and problem areas.
