National Water-Quality Assessment (NAWQA) Project

Relatively few predictions of pesticide contamination of ground water have been tested
against data on pesticide occurrence in ground water. In most cases where such comparisons
have been carried out, computer simulations and ground-water vulnerability assessments have
shown only limited ability to predict pesticide occurrence in ground water. In addition,
other solutes, most commonly nitrate and tritium, have been examined as potential indicators
of pesticide occurrence in ground water, but none have proven to be reliable for this purpose.
