Study unit maps showing Cycle I studies plus hydrologic landscape regions and land use

These maps were prepared originally for the Detailed Design Work Group (June 2000) and were available for study units to use in completing the questionnaire for planning Cycle II (January 2001). We added maps of NLCD in November 2001.

There are four sets of pagesize maps. For each set of maps, there is one Postscript file for each study unit plus a file for the generalized explanation that applies to all study units. The name of the study unit file is suplotnxxxx.ps [regular study units], suplotncombxxxx.ps [combined study units] , or suplotnxxxxhpgw.ps [study units that overlap HPGW] (n = 1,2,3,4; xxxx = 4-letter SU abbreviation), and the name of the explanation file is suplotn_exp.ps (n = 1,2,3,4). The files were designed to be printed, not examined on the screen.

Updates
11/20/01 - We added maps 1-4 for study units that overlap HPGW (cnbr,splt, kans, caci) (suplot1xxxxhpgw.ps, suplot2xxxhpgw.ps, suplot3xxxxhpgw.ps, suplot4xxxxhpgw.ps)
11/14/01 - We added a new set of maps showing NLCD landcover (suplot4xxxx.ps).
06/21/01 - We added maps (basic map, land use map, and HLR map) for the combined study units (CCYK, PODL, TENN, WHMI) called suplotncombxxx.ps.

Four Sets of Maps

1--Basic Map of Cycle I studies
The first set of maps shows each study unit, BFS/IFS sites and basins, SUS/LUS sampling sites (91s/94s) or SUS/LUS study areas (97s), and FPS sites. The intention is to depict the nesting structure for surface water and ground water.

The files are available in anonymous ftp/pub/kjh/nit/suplot1 on hqwiftp.er.usgs.gov. The study unit file name is suplot1xxxx.ps, and the explanation file is suplot1_exp.ps. (6/21/01)-Files for combined study units (CCYK, PODL, TENN, WHMI) are now available. The file name is suplot1combxxxx.ps. (11/20/01)-Files for study units that overlap HPGW are available. The file name is suplotnxxxxhpgw.ps.

All files are in suplot1.tar.gz.

2--Hydrologic Landscape Regions
The second set of maps shows the Cycle I data collection efforts listed above plus the underlying theme of hydrologic landscapes.

The files are available in anonymous ftp/pub/kjh/nit/suplot2 on hqwiftp.er.usgs.gov. The study unit file name is suplot2xxxx.ps, and the explanation file is suplot2_exp.ps. (6/21/01)-Files for combined study units (CCYK, PODL, TENN, WHMI) are now available. The file name is suplot2combxxxx.ps. (11/20/01)-Files for study units that overlap HPGW are available. The file name is suplotnxxxxhpgw.ps.

All files are in suplot2.tar.gz.

3--Anderson Land Use
The third set of maps shows the Cycle I efforts plus the underlying theme of Anderson (GIRAS) land use (1970's time frame).

The files are available in anonymous ftp/pub/kjh/nit/suplot3 on hqwiftp.er.usgs.gov. The study unit file name is suplot3xxxx.ps, and the explanation file is suplot3_exp.ps. (6/21/01)-Files for combined study units (CCYK, PODL, TENN, WHMI) are now available. The file name is suplot3combxxxx.ps.(11/20/01)-Files for study units that overlap HPGW are available. The file name is suplotnxxxxhpgw.ps.

All files are in suplot3.tar.gz.

4--NLCD Land Use
The fourth set of maps shows the Cycle I efforts plus the underlying theme of NLCD land use (1990's time frame).

The files (including combined study units) are available in anonymous ftp/pub/kjh/nit/suplot4 on hqwiftp.er.usgs.gov. The study unit file name is suplot4xxxx.ps or suplot4combxxxx.ps, and the explanation file is suplot4_exp.ps. (11/20/01)-Files for study units that overlap HPGW are available. The file name is suplotnxxxxhpgw.ps.

All files are in suplot4.tar.gz.
