About the Aquifer

The New England Crystalline-rock aquifers are the focus of a principal aquifer study by NAWQA for ground-water status and trends.

The New England Crystalline-rock aquifers are comprised of igneous and metamorphic rocks. Where glacial deposits are thin or non-existent, the crystalline rocks are the primary source of water.

Planning

Regional data synthesis for the New England Crystalline-rock aquifers is being coordinated through the Glacial Aquifer Planning Team, led by Kelly Warner. The New England Crystalline-rock aquifers lie beneath a northeastern portion of the glacial aquifer system. Because of the potential for ground-water interaction between the aquifers, data for each aquifer will be analyzed and compared.
