As a Federal agency with special expertise in the earth sciences, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is required to evaluate, review, and prepare technical comments on environmental impact statements (EIS) and associated documents prepared by other Federal agencies. In addition, through its Environmental Affairs Program (EAP), the USGS has established policies to implement the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
