• How to Manage or Cancel Your WaterAlert Subscription

The various actions for managing your WaterAlerts, such as SIGNOFF (i.e. cancel/delete/stop), LIST, PAUSE, or CONTINUE are performed by sending an email to with a Subject of your subscription ID and the action you want to take.

It is not necessary that you recall your subscription ID. To obtain the complete list of actions, with instructions specific to your WaterAlert ID, simply do the following:

  1. Open one of your WaterAlert text or email messages. In it, you will find a unique web link to a set of instructions for managing that subscription. If it is not clickable, copy and paste it into your web browser:

  2. Follow your customized instructions or simply click on the link provided within, for the action you want to take.

sends email or text messages when values measured by USGS
data-collection stations exceed user-definable thresholds.

To manage or obtain information about this WaterAlert,
send email to with the appropriate
command as the Subject, followed by your
Subscription ID (hni-ZZZZZ). Commands are:

To Cancel (signoff/delete) this alert:
  * send email to with Subject: SIGNOFF hni-ZZZZZ
To Pause this or ALL alerts for 5 days:
  * send email to with Subject: PAUSE hni-ZZZZZ 5
    you can change the 5 in the Subject to          PAUSE ALL hni-ZZZZZ
    your preferred number of days to pause.
To Continue (unpause) this or ALL alerts:
  * send email to with Subject: CONTINUE hni-ZZZZZ
                                                    CONTINUE ALL hni-ZZZZZ
To List this or ALL settings:
  * send email to with Subject: LIST hni-ZZZZZ
                                                    LIST ALL hni-ZZZZZ
For Help:

To Change an existing notification frequency
   or threshold                                     Change settings 
  * go to and
    subscribe to the same site and parameter.
    This will update your subscription settings.


Email and Text messages are not designed for paging and as such are not
time sensitive; there can be delays in the receipt notifications depending
on the routing.
