This program is an excellent WYSIWYG editor. It incorporates many tools necessary in Web Designs. These include Link checking, Image Editing, Spell Checking, and yes Cascading Style Sheets. Unfortunately it does not include an HTML checker. It does have a gif animator though and it is very easy to create image maps and work with tables.
It creates good HTML code as long as you do not use its advanced features like Navigation bars and shared borders. When it goes to export or publish web pages to a server that does not have the FP98 Extensions it automatically includes the information necessary for the page to operate without using the extensions. When it does this it does not do the include very well and it can cludge up your pages. This problem may be alleviated if your pages are posted to a Web Server running the FrontPage Server Extensions.
Not having the Server Extensions does cause problems with some of its other features too because some of them can only be used if your Web Server is running the Frontpage 98 Server Extensions (Not made for DG/UX). These include all forms and searches.
It uses the HTML 4.01 Style Sheet constructs very easily. There is a style option on almost all popup windows which you can use to apply your style. To do this you have multiple choices. You can A) Highlight text and apply the construct to that text. B) Open up the Stylesheet window and enter your styles so that they are applied to the page. C) Link a Style Sheet to your webpage.
In all cases if you wish to run the nsgmls checker you must add the appropriate DOCTYPE line to the top of your Document in the HTML viewing mode.
The program can automatically check all of your links and help you correct the broken ones easily. It can generate thumbnails of large images with the click of a button. It also include a Gif animator. A spell checker and a thesaurus come standard. If you like tables you will love how easy FP creates and modifies tables.
Image maps can be created very easily in many different ways. Server Side or Client Side image maps can be created. You can also use either a Frontpage Format, NCSA Format, CERN Format, or a Netscape Format.
FP98 includes many themes which you can use (Instead of style sheets) to apply a consistent look and feel to your site. If you do not like any of the 54 ones listed you can load the Theme Designer program and create your own.
If you wish to include scripts you have written they can be inserted very easily. It has support for VB Script and Java script or you can tell it that you are including a script from another language (Say Perl).
