tkg2 Ratings

This script is not yet supported (and may never be), but is provided in the interim because many users may find it valuable. Questions about this script should be referred to the script author. The status of the script is noted.

Name:
tkg2 Ratings - Using tkg2 to create fancy ratings outside of ADAPS.

Status:

Rating scripts tend to get very complicated (see these actual scripts for examples!). As such, it would be difficult to provide official support for them. However, these scripts have been tested and basically work as advertized. You are encouraged to try them out to see if you find them more valuable than the rating plots within ADAPS. Comments are appreciated. With sufficient comments it may be possible to develop one comprehensive script that can be officially supported and/or get elements of these scripts written into the ADAPS code.

Information:

Although ADAPS produces decent ratings, there are many enhancements that can be done using scripting and tkg2 templates outside of ADAPS. As anyone knows who has ever walked into a office different than their own, ratings are very variable from place to place. As such, the ratings on this page are an example of some of those used around the country. All of these scripts work basically the same way. There is a script that is run to prompt the user for the needed data, and one or more tkg2 template files that contain the detailed plotting information.

To install any of these, simply put the files into any directory and make the script file executable (chmod +x filename). Then type the name of the script to begin. For the Wyoming script the current water year is used as an argument. For the Montana script no argument is needed.

The Montana Rating
Script file: get_mt_rat
Templates: rating1.tkg2, rating1NS.tkg2, rating2.tkg2, raring2NS.tg2

Notes: This rating plots:

Users are also prompted for plot size (default is 11x8.5).
The rating is square by default
A shift analysis is done automatically within the script (in order to draw the measurement leader lines on the correct side of the rating.)

The Wyoming Rating
Script file: get_wy_rat
Template: rat.tkg2

Notes: (see the readme file included with the script for more information)

Users must first run a shift analysis for the base period of measurements to be plotted on the rating.
The current water year is passed to the script as an argument.

This rating plots:

Users are also prompted for plot size (default is 26x17).
The rating is square by default

The Colorado Rating
Script file: get_co_rat
Template: rating_6curve.tkg2

Notes: This is a modified version of the Montana Rating. In addition to the basic Montana options it adds:

Script Language:
ksh

Requirements:
For the Wyoming Rating you must have the Java Runtime Environment (jre) package installed on your Sun. It is available from the DIS web page at http://wwwqvarsa.er.usgs.gov/unix/solaris/jre.html

You can check this by typing on your sun:
rpm -q jre

If you get the following back, then you need to install jre:
package jre is not installed
If you get the following you should be all set to go:
jre-1.3.0-4
