Name:
qw_uv - Using tkg2 to create unit values plots of water quality data from ADAPS and QWDATA
This script was retired from active support in November 2011. Functionality is now contained in the wqmreview script included in the Auto-Review software package (qw_uv script included in the initial NWIS 4.11 OSW_Scripts package will redirect users to that new script, if installed). This page is available for historical reference only. Use of local versions of the old script without extensive testing is not recommended and the consequences are your own. If you feel this script was retired prematurely and would like to see it restored send email to GS-W OSW Scripts@usgs.gov.
Information:
Immediately after the release of the "monplot" script for plotting daily value QW data there was a cry for a similar script for unit values. Thanks to Wade Walker in Colorado we now have one.
This script produces a tkg2 plot of unit values for a given QW parameter along with a comparison parameter. For each parameter both the edited and computed unit values are plotted, as well as the max/min/mean daily values, to facilitate review of data editing and application of data corrections. Starting in the NWIS 4.8 version, Site-Visit monitor inspection field readings are also included on the plots. Four options are currently supported:
In addition, for each plot the following options are supported:
Example plots: qw_uv_sc qw_uv_wt
The user is prompted for all information. The script can be run simply by typing "qw_uv"
As an added bonus, another script called "mon4p" is included in the OSW Scripts installation package. This script pulls water quality monitor data from QWDATA that may be entered as part of QW-monitor inspection activities at the station and can be used to help interpret the graphical data being displayed in qw_uv. It may need to be modified for your use as it makes certain assumptions about what constitutes "monitor" data that may need to be adjusted from office to office. While Site-Visit will slowly make this script obsolete, it will be supported into the near future as WSCs transition from entering monitor inspection field readings into QWDATA to entering them into Site-Visit.
Installation:
This script is part of the OSW Scripts Installation package and should be installed as part of that package. Users needing the script outside of the package should send email to GS-W OSW Scripts@usgs.gov.

Original Author(s): Wade Walker, Colorado District
Known Problems/Limitations/Need Improvements:
Obviously there are any number of additional QW plots that could be added to this script. To give only one example, there is no current plot for turbidity data. This is mostly because Wade doesn't currently collect turbidity. When he does he will probably add it to the script. In the mean time - why don't you give it a try yourself? Add a one or two of your own options to the script and send it back in. We know there are other bright script writers out there!
