Alan Lumb has had some discussions with the Chair of this group concerning this effort. In addition to reporting out the status, I would like to propose to CPAC we review the purpose of the team then suggest a different approach. Basically the underfunded team effort cannot provide the information and analyses needed to make a decision on the data base for NWIS and AIS. What needs to be done is fund NWIS to work with AIS to do an analysis of the cost and benefits for changing the data base for NWIS, NWISWeb and AIS. Funds for contractor assistance would be required. The results of those analyses would be provided to CPAC for their review and advice.
