Issue: GSA required power outage for testing

Description of Action Item: ITAC to send a memo to the Regional GIO's requesting power outages that are being sent to us through GSA be better planned. We cannot be forced into one week windows.

6/21/06 update -- COMPLETED - Jim will draft a memo to be reviewed by ITAC and then will forward it to Steve King to take forward.

Issue: Parallel Processing Capacity

Description of Action Item: Steve King has made a request to see if ITAC knows of or can locate alternative solutions. (We see the big models being run and taking a long time. Is there a way to leverage what we have without buying bigger systems?)

Status of AI/Comment:

1/12/07 - COMPLETED - Chris will send Donna his executive summary for review.  Once complete will be sent to Katherine for her to review and forward to Steve.

12/8/06 - Chris will go back to Steve with what we have.  He will type up a brief description, asking Steve to raise it  to the bureau level, run it via Jim N. and then send to Katherine to forward to Steve.

10/26/06 - It has been tested in the GA office. It was tested with BOINC. It does speed things up.  Needs to be deployed with a location such as Ft Lauderdale.  It was requested that Chris provide details to Edgar and Jim N. It took a day to set it up. Sandy will check with Mary Hill in National Research Program (NRP). David will also investigate via his resources. Edgar will assist with the test if there is no impact to the user. A communication will go back to Steve King after information is received. Also cc Jessie on the communication.

6/21/06 – Chris will update ITAC with current available technologies that will allow WSC’s to implement parallel processing.

12/8/06 – Chris has written a letter and it is with his boss at this time. Once complete he will forward it to ITAC for review prior to it going out.

8/11/06 update -- WebEx presentations are still on track. March topic is needed. Chris asked that ITAC members take a look at what other Science Centers are doing and give suggestions. Chris will talk to Burl about giving a talk.

8/11/06 update -- Katherine is still working on this. A memo went out to Karen Siderelis.

9/8/06 – Katherine has had some conversation and has suggested the idea, but has not received anything back. Suggested that we put this in as a place holder for now.
