2005 ITAC Goals

GOAL 1

Ensure that the interests of the Information Technology (IT) users of the Water Resources Discipline (WRD) are represented and served during the Bureau's evolution by improving communication between the Bureau and ITAC constituents.

  1. Relay to the Bureau the needs of WRD users as affected by the reorganization of IT support.
  2. Proactively assist in getting communication out to WRD leaders and GIS contacts regarding the status and future plans for National Geospatial Program office.
  3. Advise the Bureau and our constituents of ongoing issues with the implementation of increased IT security at the Bureau level.
  4. Proactively work with the GIO to define and communicate to ITAC constituents the role and availability of Geography State Liaison staff. ITAC goal is to have a consistent understanding regarding role and functions available to WRD of these State Liaison individuals.
  5. Proactively advise the Bureau about network capacity needs for future network computing, such as map services and Web seminar application sharing to many desktops, especially considering the distributed nature of WRD offices.
  6. Ensure WRD user needs are addressed during conversion to MS Exchange e-mail and possibly other collaborative software.
  7. Ensure WRD user needs are addressed during cell phone enterprise solution.

GOAL 2

Continue to monitor, suggest policy direction, and provide field-level communication of the status of major WRD software packages.

  1. Advise our constituents on the ongoing improvements to NWIS, NWISWeb, NatWeb, and NWIS-RT.
  2. Advise Bureau EWeb about WRD concerns and suggestions.
  3. Advise WRD on the production of the Annual Data Report (process, method, media, and costs).

GOAL 3

Continue to monitor and suggest policy for general computer usage for the WRD.

  1. Institutionalize the mobile computer effort for WRD.
  2. Advocate the purchase of a Direct Readout Ground Station (DRGS) in the WRD to provide backup of real-time DCP data in case of DOMSAT failure.
