Draft --- ITAC Goals for FY 2003

From your feedback, here are the proposed goals for ITAC for FY 2003. Please review before the February meeting and be prepared to vote on them. We will go down each sub-goal to ensure that it is still applicable for this year.

• GOAL 1.

1. Ensure that the interests of the customers of the Water Resources Discipline (WRD) are represented and served during the Bureau's evolution by improving communication between the Bureau and ITAC constituents.
2. Advise the Bureau and our constituents of ongoing issues with the AIS/Basis + conversion.
3. Relay to the Bureau our constituents' concerns with regards to the loss of core IT support in the WRD.
4. Facilitate improved communication between the GIO, IT workgroups, and constituents.
5. Advocate the creation of a Lotus Notes user group to address concerns and future implementation.
6. Advise Active Domain (AD) implementation so that it meets the needs of the WRD according to the priority of resource allocations with other projects.
7. Advocate a renewed look at the direction of the Training Management System (TMS).
8. Advise the WRD senior staff and our constituents with regards to the status and effect of the competitive sourcing of IT personnel on WRD programs.
9. Advise the Bureau and our constituents of ongoing issues with the implementation of increased IT security at the Bureau level.
• GOAL 2.

1. Continue to monitor, recommend policy direction, and provide field-level communication of the status of major WRD software packages.
2. Advise our constituents on the on-going improvements to NWIS, NWISWeb, NatWeb, and NWIS-RT.
3. Facilitate the release of a revised SLEDS program.
• GOAL 3.

1. Continue to monitor and develop policy for general computer usage for the WRD.
2. Institutionalize the mobile computer effort.
3. Advocate the purchase of a Direct Readout Ground Station (DRGS) in the WRD to provide backup of real-time DCP data in case of DOMSAT failure.
4. Define a modem telemetry contingency plan.
