WSC comment--Re: Proposed agenda for next ITAC meeting for your review

_____________________________________________

Richard,

This topic has been high on our list for many meetings and our report-out notes should have highlighted the "head-up". It is and will continue to be a huge drain on our resources. This has been driven by DOI and Gallagher is well aware and trying to minimize the impact to the "field". We will hear more during the 9:30 session. The fact that Gallagher actually shows up at every ITAC meeting for the past four suggests that he sincerely wants to hear about these effects on WSCs.

Thanks for chiming in as we do NOT hear much back from the WSCs and that is why we have this committee.

Re: Proposed agenda for next ITAC meeting for your review

Jeff,
Howdy.
I reviewed the agenda and I don't see anything about IT security issues -unless it will be covered under this:

9:30 - 10:00 IT issues pending from DOI Gallagher
Any prognosis that could affect WRD?
Expected Outcome: Information/discussion

I have been getting a lot of complaints from my IT folks about the piles of IT security forms, checklists and plans, etc they have recently been inundated with.
Their biggest complaint seems to be the lack of understanding from the Reston folks of the amount of effort this stuff is taking and the lack of templates, etc. for the IT security plans and other required responses.
Have you heard this from any other WSC ?

Rick

Proposed agenda for next ITAC meeting for your review

WSC Directors,

For your viewing pleasure is a near-final draft agenda for the next ITAC (Information Technology Information Committee) meeting to be hosted by the Maine Water Science Center in Augusta. Although this agenda is quite full, please let me know by Monday night (8/8) if there are other IT issues that you believe should be considered during this meeting. The ITAC is a group that meets about three times annually in various "field offices" to discuss and make suggestions about IT issues that affect science support for WRD. remember that major organizational groups of WSCs are represented on this Committee by Center voulnteers.

Regards,

Jeff Stoner
ITAC Chair
