Impacts of the Strategy for USGS IT Functions on the DIS Program Office |
All WRD System Administrators,
On May 16th the Director signed a memorandum with the subject "Strategy for USGS Information Technology Functions", which was posted on the USGS electronic bulletin board. You should have received a reference to this memo in a recent email from the Lotus Postmaster. Here is a link to the memo:
Strategy for USGS Information Technology Functions; From: Janet N Arneson/DO/USGS/DOI; ( ALL Regions - USGS Employees and Contractors ) --> http://gsvaresh01.er.usgs.gov/Distribution/AB8328F8FF62063685256BBB00730463
The immediate impact of these actions on the DIS Program Office is the movement of Bob Wakelee, Mike McNally, and Jack Yost to the new GIO structure. They have been officially detailed to the GIO structure starting on May 5th. They will move with their current duties intact at least for the time being. The DIS Office and the GIO's office are in the process of developing service level agreements between WRD and the GIO for Bob, Jack, and Mike, in order to ensure that the critical functions they perform in WAN support and IT Security will continue to be provided to WRD.
All WRD sites should continue to coordinate and communicate WAN and IT security issues with Bob, Jack, and Mike, and the WRD network and security teams until told otherwise.
The rest of the DIS Staff remains assigned to WRD.
We will keep you posted as the implementation of the GIO structure continues to develop.
Thanks, Tom
