Windows 2000 ADS Cost and Resulting Benefits Report for your review |
USGS Information Managers -
Here is the Windows 2000 Active Directory Attached Services Cost and Resulting Benefits report I alerted you about last week. I would appreciate your review and comments prior to delivery to the ELT.
This report gives the rationale, history, strategy and costs for consciously deploying a shared architecture in the bureau. We know that offices are already experimenting with Windows 2000 and ADS in anticipation of the USGS formally adopting the configuration model proposed by the Lighthouse Team. These offices will use the final model to build their own local implementations, rather than "roll their own" as a way to ensure that all USGS offices interoperate without unnecessary electronic boundaries.
The report has been reviewed by the Lighthouse Team members and their input included in this final review copy. I am also carbon copying them in the event you wish to ask them questions, to ensure we are all working with the same final review version. Any comments or suggestions that you are willing to share to help make the rationale and strategy more clear would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your help! -Donna
