Most of the SLEDS upgrades only require replacing the main program file with the new one. Several (4.00, 4.02, 4.14, 4.16, 4.29, 4.35, 4.44, 4.48) require one or more database tables to be modified. This is done by the DBA running SLEDS and clicking the "Update SLEDS" button. Version 4.56 has a new table that is created with the "Update SLEDS" button. The reports are released as separate files and need to placed in the same directory, and are loaded with the "Update SLEDS" button. The updates can be applied for any version, so if you haven't had many upgrades, you can catch up with the latest version.

Laboratories soon can capture the new versions whenever they wish. They place the new version into a common directory and select the update button in SLEDS. Updates, dates and time, and changes made to SLEDS are (will be available in a few days) available on the CVO web site. If labs feel they'll benefit from a recent SLEDS modification then they have the option to update or not. Any major changes to the database can require an e-mail announcement and a mandatory update. Many of the versions listed now are for Iowa City lab testing and to accommodate their needs. Most of the changes are only done to SLEDS front end; very little modifications, if any, are being made to the database.

Version 4.53 was released on 12-10-02 to Kentucky, Iowa, and Missouri for testing. This version incorporated SimpleSLEDS with regular SLEDS which also was updated with the new size profiles that allow sieve, VA tube, and sedigraph to be analyzed for any sizes. Also, Dissolved Solids and Loss on Ignition analyses were added.

Since then most new versions have been made to help Iowa get started with the program, and for Missouri to test and refine the VA Tube analysis.

Version 4.75 was released to New Mexico so they could take advantage of the newer login interface. Version 4.75 was also released to Puerto Rico because they had a very old version with problems.

Version 4.77 was release to both California and Iowa before California review of Iowa. They've both since upgraded to 4.90 and Missouri is currently at 4.91. We are testing 4.91 at CVO, which has the ability to run accounting reports based on the sample selections as reports.

By the end of the fiscal year, we hope to have the new hydrometer analysis added, and have the pipet analysis be able to use all sieve sizes. We also plan to have a new output format, parameters, and method codes for use with NWIS, and we plan on a port of the program to a Microsoft WIndows XP compliant PC platform. We will also try to get out some useable documentation.

thanks for this info. how are versions managed, as i see 6 versions in a month. in other words, does a user need to have same version to run? how difficult is it for them to do an upgrade. these are great details. i am looking more big picture at what are the recent major changes and what will be done by the end of fy 03 and what will be left that you have been asked to provide.

Sandy the attached documents lists the day-to-day updates to SLEDS. This may be of some help for your meeting. Bill is working to set these lists for display on the CVO/SEDLAB web site for all to see. This should be done within a few days then we'll announce it to all the ts_group. You'll notice that California just received the recent version of SLEDS so now they are able to process their size samples using SLEDS.

Bill will not be able to participate in the conference call. According to the schedule the SLEDS discussion takes place at 7:00 am pst and Bill is obligated to take his children to school at that time.
