Subject:	Clarification - IT Hardware Freeze

As you know, we have been working with the Department's CIO to get additional guidance and clarification concerning what is covered under the current DOI IT acquisition freeze. I am attaching additional guidance we have just received on this point. I believe this clarification will help the USGS; especially with regard to our scientific and technical equipment.

I am very appreciative of the input and assistance my office received from around the bureau in helping us to better document and explain the need for this clarification. This really helped us in our discussions with DOI.
