Draft Update on Microsoft Enterprise License |
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide the latest information the DIS Office has gathered concerning the Department of Interior Microsoft Enterprise License. This information is being provided in an attempt to keep you aware of active and changing situations, and also to alleviate confusion on this subject.
On September 30, 2002 the Department of Interior entered into an Enterprise Agreement with Microsoft for a set of specific products. This Enterprise Agreement is active for three years and the products are Windows XP Professional, Office XP Professional, Windows 2000 Server, Windows core CALs, SMS, MOM, and SQL Server.
All indications are that the cost of the Enterprise Agreement will be recovered from the science centers, though this has not been confirmed. Based on preliminary cost figures for USGS, the estimated cost of the Microsoft Enterprise Agreement in FY 03 is $206 per FTE. This figure is our best guess at this point and is subject to change, but is provided as a "heads up" for planning purposes.
Please be aware that other costs associated with the bureauwide deployment of Microsoft Active Directory and increased network security could be assessed to the science centers in FY 03 and these costs have not yet been determined.
Additional information concerning the Microsoft Enterprise agreement can be found at: http://nttac.usgs.gov/nt_tac/index.asp?url=Ent_Agreement_revised.html
Updated information on this subject, when available, will be forthcoming from the GIO Office and from DIS.
