January 2004 ITAC Teleconference will be held on January 26th from 2:00-4:00 pm ET
ITAC decided to invite a representative from the USGS Collaborative Communications Information Team (CCIT) to the February meeting.
Greg McHendrie or Patty Damon could make a presentation. There are CCIT status and issues that are important to ITAC constituents.
Charlie suggested that ITAC members be invited to the ITAC meetings by the ITAC Chair or Office of Water Information Chief.
Karen Klima, Kevin Gallagher, ERGIO, and CCIT representatives should be contacted.
Discussions:
Jeff Stoner indicated that he sent ITAC summary to District Chiefs, but suggested that the ITAC charter needs to be modified for clarification of this task. Each ITAC members sends and ITAC meeting summary to his/her constituency.
(DEC2003.Telecon.1) Marilyn will update charter to clarify this before next
ITAC meeting.
Katherine Lins reported that the GOES/DCS support letter for Wallops Island is to be signed by the USGS Director and sent to NOAA. This is an ITAC accomplishment in support of the ITAC goals.
Reference Letter to NOAA concerning GOES -- email from Chip Groat, 01/06/2004
The HASS instruction memo is in its final draft stages and will be distributed via an Office of Information memo. This is another ITAC accomplishment in support of the ITAC goals.
Katherine Lins has asked Greg Allord to release guidelines for sensitive data as WRD guidance until DOI policy comes out.
The GIOLT met yesterday; the following are shared items from Katherine Lins and others.
Karen Klima's memo regarding deadlines for separating internal and public Web sites will be sent out soon. All Web sites will have to be registered or the sites will get turned off. There is a draft DOI policy floating around to freeze development and implementation of new public Web pages/systems.
Jessie will send memo to her... to ask her to explain assistance of CTO to Districts regarding this. All Web sites will get printouts of sites and compare with firewalls (Jessie)
The next round of systems for Certification & Accreditation has a deadline in 2004 rather than 2005 as originally anticipated. WRD has identified NAWQA, NWQL systems.
Discussion about DOI approach for Enterprise Server Network. ITAC will be interested in this activity
Discussion about Lotus vs. Microsoft Exchange. DOI ITMC is close to a decision on which mail service will be the standard for the Bureau
USGS Active Directory TEAM is meeting in Reston this week for implementation planning.
Karen Klima gave status report on: EWeb; standard templates; NatWeb; Thesaurus; Publications Warehouse (to be released in January); Information Architecture
A new GIS committee has been established at the Bureau level. WRD will name a representative for serve.
