Oregon District Web Policy To: ordist@maildorprn.wr.usgs.gov Subject: Oregon District WEB Activities Date: Sat, 05 Apr 1997 19:23:40 -0800 From: "Dennis D Lynch, District Chief, OR, Portland, OR" Over the past few months, I have become concerned that WEB activities in the Oregon District have been running without enough controls. Although I don't want to stifle creativity, I think it is important that we project a professional image and that we use our time wisely. With these two thoughts in mind, I am requiring that District employees use the following procedures: 1. Before you create or add to a home page (District, project, or personal; internal or external), you must first obtain permission from your supervisor. This step is put in place so that the supervisor can determine whether the planned activity is warranted, and whether the person has the time available to engage in these activities. 2. Prior to release, all material placed on an external home page (i.e. a home page available to users outside the District), must be reviewed by the District Reports Specialist to ensure it is editorially clean and that it projects a professional image. 3. Personal home pages are allowed, but they must be reviewed by the District Reports Specialist before release. Personal home pages should be for the purpose of informing other scientists about your professional activities in order to facilitate collaboration on projects, data collection, or reviews. Personal home pages are not for the purpose of sharing personal interests, hobbies, etc. Although allowed, I do not want personal home pages developed and maintained during paid work time.
