Creation of CPAC and initial members In Reply Refer To: Mail Stop 445 April 4, 1995 MEMORANDUM To: Members, Computer Policy Advisory Committee From: Robert M. Hirsch Chief Hydrologist Subject: Formation of the Water Resources Division Computer Policy Advisory Committee The purpose of this memorandum is to notify you that you have been selected as a member of the new Computer Policy Advisory Committee (CPAC) that will replace the Strategic Planning Group (SPG), the Planning and Implementation Committee (PIC), and the Software Issues Team (SIT). The membership is a cross-section of the organization in terms of function, location, and authority. Members chosen to serve from the dispersed committees will serve from 1 to 2 years; new members will serve on a 2- to 3-year rotation; and the chair will be elected from the membership on a yearly basis. The Senior Staff will be briefed at regular intervals on the issues pertaining to computer hardware and software that affect the Water Resources Division (WRD). The purpose of the CPAC will be to assist WRD in preparing strategic plans, coordinating configuration and implementation, representing and communicating with different parts of the organization, making decisions related to computer hardware and software systems used by WRD, and making recommendations to the Senior Staff on plans or policies that involve a significant expenditure of resources. It is anticipated that the group will seek to achieve consensus in making decisions. We expect that CPAC will be very active and that you will have the interest, dedication, and time to expend on this committee. Substitutes are not permitted to attend the meetings. We also expect CPAC to create work groups to address specific issues. Funding for CPAC travel will need to be paid by your respective offices. The first meeting will be held in Rolla, Missouri, May 16-18, 1995. This will be the transition meeting from SPG/SIT/PIC to CPAC. Congratulations on your selection to the CPAC. We look forward to your future input to continue the successful corporate computing environment that WRD shares.
