This presentation was attended by approximately 181 attendees in 42 states (nearly as many districts). The presentation was such a hit that it will be repeated at a later date, yet to be determined. 5/3/04 update -- Two recent actions have reduced the impact of the temporary DMZs: 1) The Enterprise FTP Service was randomly announced to various IT staff early March 2004. I propose that the ITAC request the GIO to announce this service to all USGS employees. NatWeb has provided excellent documentation for how to migrate to NatWeb and/or utilize "reverse proxy" to their public web sites.

Description of Action Item: ITAC to send letter to Karen Siderelis regarding EMS situation. Letter to Karen should focus on service level agreement (SLA).

Description of Action Item: Add to SWUG agenda for December meeting: Discussion and review of possible strategies that could be used to provide redundant or back-up capabilities for the acquisition of non-GOES (radio, phone) real-time data. The backup would need to be able to acquire the data from the sensor and then feed the data to either the district NWIS or the NWIS-RT server. Programs that could be implemented on NWIS-RT will implement a "depot" for accepting the data from the non-GOES telemetry, but that data must be acceptable by SATIN/DECODES/SENTRY for processing. Pursue HYDSTRA and Jessie's IL contacts. Results reported back to ITAC for recommendation. [Note: This AI is not in minutes.]
