Nothing has been put on our web pages about purchase of servers with no OSs and I've not sent anything to the approvers ... Spoke with Paul Exter about it and decided not to put up ... Because all IT hardware purchases need to be approved for waiver during the DOI freeze (as you know, our office (p)reviews all of these for Karen's approval and signature) the reply memorandum sent by Karen, after final review and approval, includes a note about the "no OS" for acquisition of servers ... I'm attaching a copy of one that was recently sent out ... Also, probably by the time the consolidated contract/agreement is awarded Paul will have distributed more information on the Microsoft consolidated software contract via his web page ... My intention, then will be to send out a message to all IT Investment approvers linking to his pages and call attention to the "NO OS purchase for server acquisitions" directive ... however, to my knowledge the pages have not been released ... and if they were I was not courtesy copied ... I've checked the following site http://internal.usgs.gov/gio/computing/ent_agreement.html and know that the "NO OS" statement is there .. Once I receive confirmation that the site is completed I will then send out an email to all the folks in the bureau who have IT Investment approval authority ...

Has the FIP web page been updated to state that people should not purchase servers with the OS? If so,can you send me the link?

I thought I saw an email from you to FIP approvers stating this new guideline but I cannot locate it.
