1.) Introduction
2.) Data Conference Follow-up Items
- a.) Use of DOI Learn to track training
- i.) Successes - evaluations from DOI Learn were useful. Grade of 4.7 of 5 overall.
- ii.) Misses - not many requests for credit. an after thought. Can do behind the scenes but more labor intensive. Alan work with Melanie Hood to streamline. 122 out of 460 (28%) registered in DOI Learn.Single course with multiple courses in DOI Learn.
- iii.) Use at OGW/OSW/OQW Conferences??? Short courses input to DOI Learn. Todd Koenig/Bob Holmes - short-course coordinators. Rod to bring up with OGW short-course coordinators. Engage OED on loading short courses into DOI Learn.
- b.) Discussion with HDAC
- i.) Request for training development
- 1.) Fall Protection - safety
- 2.) Invasive species transmission by Hydro Techs - environmental health.
Experts outside of WMA. HDAC make formal request for this training, route through STED and to Senior Leadership.
- ii.) Training Tracks / Required Training for Hydro Techs
OGW - committee white paper on training tracks, delivered to Chief OGW, going to implement.
OQW - similar approach to OGW, not much feedback but OQW leadership in flux. Draft developed but likely will change. OSW just reviewed training track in last month. Minor changes but content of course will change with CARP for all three.
- c.) Discussion about Stream Gage blog (see email chain) - need a maintainer, will forward to HDAC.
3.) New STED Member - Hydrologic Technician - Walter “Ferrell” Killion
4.) Distance Learning Updates
- a.)FY2014 Awardees - send out to all WMA when completed? Listserv. STED Website. Register in DOI Learn.
- i.) Project Management
- ii.) AQUARIUS for LDMs - expected to be done 12/18/2015 (see links below in 7.b…)
- iii.) Index velocity - get feedback from Kevin Oberg on use of course.
- b.) FY2015 Awardees
- c.) FY2016
- i.) No expressed concerns with STED member being the WMA representative to the DL RFP process
5.) 2017/2018 WMA Training Needs Survey - start setting up June 2016 to roll out Oct. 1 2016.
- a.) Feedback on usefulness of Survey - definite useful in OSW to whether to hold courses. First-line supervisors with follow-ups through WSC Directors seemed to work.
- b.) Ways to change - consider non-CARP version.
6.) Old Business
- a. Training Tracks
- i.) OWQ
- ii.) OGW
- iii.) OSW - update (?)
- iv.) OWI - necessary(?) - being discussed. OWI being restructured.
- b.) NRP Lecture Series - ongoing for 20 yrs, started as NRP only, now WMA. 6 lectures per yr. 3 NRP, 3 WSC. Jerad asks for nominations and selects.
- i.) Cindy was to develop requirements
- ii.) Is it OK to post on YouTube?
- 1.) USGS YouTube page (link) for requirements to post videos - concerns is less interest in the face-to-face portion if recorded. On agenda to discuss at management meeting. YouTube probably not a good location for it. Check that link to Western lectures are on STED webpage. Also Eastern has some recorded. Jim Cornwall is ‘official backup’ for STED Website.
- iii.) Review requirements?
7. Any new links for the the STED website training page ?
- a.) Should we add The 2015 Regional Water Data Conference (RWDC): https://collaboration.usgs.gov/wg/hdiw/Pages/2015_RWDC_presentations.aspx to the external training page ? See: http://water.usgs.gov/usgs/STED/ext_training.html
- b.) Aquarius videos ? [JimC] for the TEL courses being developed, Norm reports that they are in the process of narrating 4 modules for the AQCore. See
8. DOI University will join NTC in Bldg 53. Allow NTC to retain all existing training rooms! Max utilization! Schedule DOI U events March 2016. First reservation room availability! Schedule training at start of the fiscal year! No USGS control of Hazards room, available only if DOI U not using it.
- A.) May want to pull together a list of Center capabilities for OED for off-site training.
- B.)Touch base with Chuck S. and CARP team with regards to Center capabilities. Or Kevin Housel.
