STED AGENDA 02/19/2015 (Notes, Action Items)

Attendees: Joe C., Cindy, Alan, Dave, Greg C., Greg Brewster, Jen, Jim Cornwall, Jim Kolva, Mike, Stan, Rod

  1. HDAC (Brewster, Hazell - Greg introduced himself and HDAC committee.  Discussed training tracks; OSW has something, OGW working on it (Rod); OWQ?
      • Interactions with STED
        • Training Tracks - OGW (Rod), OWQ (Stan) working on training tracks. These things take some time to get vetted.  Not unrealistic to think that they will be done by the Data Conference.
Results of training survey might alter direction/new courses a bit.
          • WMA Training Needs Survey
        • Regional Water Data Conference 2015
          • SEPT 14-17 2015 in Jacksonville, Fl - Package sent to DOI for approval; call for proposals to be sent out next month.
A separate Ad-hoc committee (GhostCHIDER) has been set up to put the 2015 conference together and run it.
STED having booth/presentation? Probably at least a presentation.
          • HDAC Needs from STED -
Notes: Should definitely have a speaker in plenary session.  STED brochure in the packet.  Booth is expensive. But worthwhile.  430 registered, 125 on standby.  25 for late registrations.  Possibly 450 people was approved by DOI.
STED members to be attending Data Conference:  Joe, Stan, Jim K., Rod
  1. USGS INVESTIGATIONS MEETING FEEDBACK (Clark)
    • 10-13 Feb 2015 (Greg C./Rod stuck his head in/) OGW, OSW, OWQ gave short presentations, Investigations chief/other presenters in 15 min. bang, bang bang presentations. STED really didn’t get mentioned and there wasn’t a training component to the meeting.
    • Any upcoming National-Level meetings (?) -- no discussion on annual meetings, but Greg thinks that is the plan for long-term.
  1. WATER MISSION AREA TRAINING SURVEY
    • What does the data tell us?

Joe - need to send summary reports to the Tech. office Chiefs (Robert, Bill, Donna), WSFT (Hoffman), and OWI/NWIS (Joe Nielsen?) -- GW, SW, WQ, ID, C reports, adding together indiv. training; add # of offices responding to each one if possible; Each course has a total so that they are ranked from most requested to least requested. Tell Offices/WSFT that there are more data if they need it, like breakdowns of Centers/Regions requesting a particular course.

Do we want to send to Directors, grouped by region fro that particular region(Greg?)

Alan -- will send results for a part. course to course coordinators/instructors

    • What does the STED want to focus on:
      • Top items
      • How to convey information
        • Discipline Offices
Kolva - distribute results to training coord. for tech. offices
Stan - there is sign. overlap between WQ and other disciplines
Dave P - Python course is run out of GW--just ran last week
        • HDAC
        • WSCs / Regional Offices (?)
        • WSFT
        • OWI/NWIS
      • Identify action items
      • Task assignment for face-to-face
  1. STED Face-to –Face Meeting
    1. Time
      1. Late-March to early April, 2015 (?) Jun, July better, Doodle poll from Joe C

    3. Topics
      1. WMA Training Needs
