Sand and gravel aquifers (glaciated regions)
Glacial Surficial Sand and/or Gravel
LOCATION - Lat 46°04'45.14", long 94°21'26.12" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in SW 1/4 SW 1/4 SE 1/4 sec.08, T.130 N., R.29 W., Morrison County, MN, Hydrologic Unit 07010104,

The well is located approximately 6.8 miles North of Little Falls, MN and 7.1 miles East of Randall, MN.

REVISIONS HISTORY - The well's measuring point elevation was resurveyed on 16 Oct. 2016. This elevation survey caused a change in the land surface datum elevation. Prior to 16 Oct. 2016, the land surface datum elevation was 1149.02 ft. above NGVD29 (+/- 5 ft.). Beginning on 16 Oct. 2016 to the present, the land surface datum elevation is 1141.63 ft. above NAVD88 (+/- 0.03 ft.). This update was made in NWIS on 02 Mar. 2017.
GROUNDWATER RECORDS
WELL CHARACTERISTICS - Depth 58.5 ft. Upper casing diameter 2 in; top of first opening 55.5 ft, bottom of last opening 58.5 ft. Well WLN03-2 is a groundwater observation well that was drilled on 03 Dec. 1948 with a 5-inch-diameter, with an unknown drill rig to 77.5 ft. The well is constructed of a 3-feet-long, 2-inch-diameter, schedule-40, galvanized steel, unknown-inch slotted, well screen, attached with to length/s of 2-inch-diameter, schedule-40 galvanized steel well casing. The well casing measuring point (stickup) was 1.85 feet (1143.48 ft. NAVD88, +/- 0.03 ft.) above land surface when measured on 04 Dec. 2014. The open interval of the well is between 55.5 and 58.5 feet below land surface and the total well depth is 58.5 feet below land surface.
DATUM - Land-surface datum is 1,141.63 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988. Measuring point: MP assumed to be the top of casing, not protection post, 2.5 ft above land-surface datum, Mar. 1, 1949 to present; 3 file marks on lip of cap. This new MP established due to new cap being installed on well, 1.85 ft above land-surface datum, Dec. 4, 2014 to present. The current measuring point is 3 file marks on top of the aluminum locking well cap ring, which is mounted on-top of the 2-inch galvanized steel well casing, and was 1.85 feet above land surface on 04 Dec. 2014. Elevation of the measuring point is 1143.48 plus-or-minus 0.03 feet above sea level, North American Vertical Datum of 1988, based on a differential GPS Survey on 20 Oct. 2016.
PERIOD OF RECORD -

Water levels were recorded periodically from 01 Mar. 1948 to the present. Water levels were recorded quarter-hourly during 12 Dec. 2011 to 28 Sept. 2005.

GAGE -

This well is not currently gaged. Only visited periodically to measure discrete groundwater levels.

Continuous water level was measured with a KPSI 500 pressure transducer from 12 Dec. 2003 to 28 Sept. 2005. Data were recorded quarter-hourly by a Sutron 8210 Data-Collection-Platform (DCP). The datalogger was housed inside of Hoffman style shelter, which was installed over-top of the 2-inch galvanized steel well. Continuous water level data were transmitted hourly via GOES telemetry. All equipment and shelter were removed from the site on 28 Sept. 2005 due to this well being affected by pumping from nearby production well at Camp Ripley. Site is currently only a 2-inch galvanized steel well casing with an aluminum locking well cap.

COOPERATION - Well WLN03-2 is operated for long-term groundwater level monitoring by the U.S. Geological Survey.
REMARKS - Water levels at this site are affected by pumping from a nearby production well for the Minnesota Army National Guard, Camp Ripley. This was determined during continuous water level data collection during 12 Dec. 2011 to 28 Sept. 2005. It's assumed that all discrete water levels measurements continue to be affected by pumping at this nearby production well.
