08123640 Natural Dam Salt Lake near Big Spring, TX
LOCATION - Lat 32°13'12", long 101°37'45" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Howard County, TX, Hydrologic Unit 12080006, on left bank upstream from dam on Sulphur Springs Creek, 1.5 miles north of I-20, 2.3 miles upstream from confluence with Mustang Creek, and 9.1 miles west of Big Spring.
DRAINAGE AREA - 73 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Nov. 6, 1963 to Sept. 11, 1967 (miscellaneous elevation readings), Feb. 19, 1999 to Feb. 14, 2017 (daily reservoir elevation), May 31, 2018 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is NGVD of 1929. To convert published values to NAVD88, add 1.14ft. Satellite telemeter at station.

REMARKS - The capacity table was furnished by Colorado River Municipal Water District. The capacity curve was prepared for the city of Big Spring by Freese and Nichols, Consulting Engineers in 1938. The lake was formed by a natural dam. In May 1957, the city of Big Spring added additional fill to the natural dam increasing height of spillway by 2 ft. Elevation of various features of dam: top of dam 2,476.0 ft., crest of spillway 2,457.0 ft.
