Jay Choi, Ph.D.
Senior Research Associate
U.S. Geological Survey, Headquarters, Water Resources Discipline
Dr. Jay Choi studies hydrologic numerical modeling and field investigation for contaminant transport processes, especially in coupled groundwater and surface-water systems. The research has been focused on quantifying the interactions between groundwater and surface water in streams and wetlands using field-tracer studies and the application of numerical models with statistical optimization and statistical sensitivity analysis of transport models, the development and modification of surface-water flow model for wetland system, and the management and development of a hydrologic and biogeochemical database.
Jay received his undergraduate and master's degrees in Geology from Yonsei University (South Korea) and Shimane University (Japan), respectively. He completed his Ph.D in Hydrology and Water Resources at the University of Arizona in 1998. Aftera postdoctoral fellowship (1998-2001) at the U.S. Geological Survey (Reston, VA), he worked at S. S. Papadopulos Associates, Inc. between 2001 - 2010. He joined the USGS Hydroecology of Flowing Waters team as a senior research associate in 2010.
