The Reservoir package simulates leakage between a reservoir and an underlying groundwater system as the reservoir area expands and contracts in response to changes in reservoir stage. Unlike the Lake package the user specifies the heads in reservoirs rather than the heads being computed. The pane for this package is on the MODFLOW Packages and Programs dialog box under Head Dependant Flux.

On the RES: Reservoir package pane, the user can specify where the reservoirs will be located. Possible choices include (1) the Top layer, (2) a Specified layer and (3) Top active cell. However, if Top active cell is picked, the location of the reservoir will NOT change vertically in response to cells switching between wet and dry.

The user also chooses whether to Print reservoir stage, area, and volume at each time step (IRESPT) and the number of values in the printed table of stage, volume, and area (NPTS). First and last stage value are minimum and maximum elevations within area of potential inundation. A value of 15 or greater is recommended for detailed representation of stage-volume and stage-area relations.
