#  METADATA Data Description:
#
# This data set consists of slope and aspect values for selected NAWQA surface water basins. It is derived from
# National Elevations Data (NED) 100m resolution data. Slope is calculated as the basin mean slope, in percent
# (rise/run * 100). Aspect is calculated as the mean basin aspect, in degrees (i.e. degrees of the compass, 90 = due east,
# 180 = due south, 270 = due west, 360/0 = due north). Because aspect is a circular variable (that is, large values,
# e.g. 359, are very close to small values, e.g. 1) two additional measures of aspect are provided which transform aspect into
# continuous variables, which is more convenient for correlation purposed. These are "northness", and "eastness", two
# continuous variables which range from 1 to -1 as follows:
#
#	      northness = 1 -> basin is north-facing/draining
#	      northness = -1 -> basin is south-facing/draining
#	      eastness = 1 -> basin is east-facing/draining
#	      eastness = -1 -> basin is west-facing/draining
#

#  SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
#
# Selection of the analysis period and site criteria are detailed in Wise and others, 2007 (SIR 2007-5186). The data sets
# contain the ancillary data for 126 sites, even though we only used 91 of those. Seven sites were added later and have no ancillary data
# (sites 10729, 10386, 11386, 10332, 10616, 12012, 11489) and two sites were located too close to the Canadian border to get useful
# ancillary data (sites 12400520 and 61A070). See Table 1 in Wise and others, 2007 (SIR 2007-5186) for complete site listing.
