# METADATA Data Description:
#
# ABSTRACT:
#	This data set lists the model specifications used in trend analyses of nutrient and sediment
#	concentrations and loads for streams in the Lower Mississippi, Arkansas-White-Red, Texas-Gulf
#	Basins as presented in Rebich and Demcheck, 2007 (SIR 2007-5090). This investigation was
#	completed as part of the USGS National Water-Quality Assessment Program. Trend analyses were
#	completed using Fluxmaster, which is a load estimation program that is typically used in
#	conjunction with the Spatially Referenced Regression on Watershed Attributes (SPARROW) model.
#	The Fluxmaster program uses a multiple regression technique to estimate loads. The
#	regression equation includes a time term as well as terms for flow and season (sine and
#	cosine functions). Numbers listed in this file correspond to a specified equation that includes
#	combinations of all or some of the possible terms. The numbered equations are listed below.
#	The coefficient for time is the trend in percent per year for the study
#	period analyzed. Coefficients of time were determined for streamflow, total trends of nutrients
#	and sediment unadjusted for flow, and flow-adjusted nutrient and sediment trends. The complete
#	description of the theory and equations for Fluxmaster are documented in Schwarz and others, 2006
#	(USGS Techniques and Methods report, Book 6,Section B, Chapter 3). The Fluxmaster program is run
#	using SAS software (Statistical Analysis System Institute, 2000). Software and documentation for
#	Fluxmaster/SPARROW can be downloaded from the SPARROW web page at
#	URL: http://pubs.usgs.gov/tm/2006/tm6b3/. The file listed here is a text file but must be entered
#	and saved as an Microsoft Excel file (.xls) before using in the SAS software for the Fluxmaster/
#	SPARROW program. Analyses were performed for all sites listed, but not all results were published
#	in Rebich and Demcheck, 2007 (SIR 2007-5090) due to poor model fit or large errors.

# METADATA detailed documentation of dataset elements:
#
#	The .txt file should be entered and saved as a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet for use in the
#	Fluxmaster software. Column headings are as follows:
#
#	MRB: Major River Basin number, in this case the value is always 5 for MRB5 which is the
# Lower Mississippi, Arkansas-White-Red, and Texas-Gulf Basin as presented in Rebich
# and Demcheck, 2007 (SIR 2007-5090).
#
#	station_id:	Station identification number for the water quality trend sites used in this study
# as specified in MRB5A_wq_site_list.txt.
#
#	P00600: Column identifying model number for trend analysis of total nitrogen data for a
# particular water-quality site. Total nitrogen was typically calculated by adding
# values of nitrite plus nitrate to values of total ammonia plus organic nitrogen.
# More documentation of data manipulations and screening can be found in the metadata
# for the file MRB5A.sas7bdat.txt.
#
#	P00608: Column identifying model number for trend analysis of filtered ammonia data for a
# particular water-quality site.
#
#	P00625: Column identifying model number for trend analysis of total (unfiltered) ammonia
# plus organic nitrogen data for a particular water-quality site.
#
#	P00631: Column identifying model number for trend analysis of nitrite plus nitrate data
for a particular water-quality site (combined filtered and unfiltered - for more
documentation, see metatdata for the file MRB5A.sas7bdat.txt.
#
#	P00665: Column identifying model number for trend analysis of total (unfiltered) phosphorus
# data for a particular water-quality site.
#
#	P00666: Column identifying model number for trend analysis of filtered phosphorus data
# for a particular water-quality site.
#
#	P00671: Column identifying model number for trend analysis of filtered orthophosphorus
# data for a particular water-quality site.
#
#	P80154: Column identifying model number for trend analysis of suspended sediment data
# for a particular water-quality site.
#
#	PSMAT: Column identifying model number for trend analysis of suspended material, or total
# suspended solids (PCODE 00530) data for a particular water-quality site.
#
#
#	Single digit numbers in this spreadsheet correspond to the nine different variations of the
#	regression model used to estimate loads. These equations can include flow, time,
#	and sine/cosine functions (seasonal terms). If an equation is selected that does not include a
#	time term, then a time term is added prior to using the Fluxmaster software so that trends over
#	time are always estimated in the analysis. Fluxmaster provides both error terms and probability,
#	or p-, values to evaluate model coefficients and fit. If the p-value associated with the time term
#	is greater than 0.05 (significance level), then it is determined that there was no trend in that
#	constituent at that station location for the time period 1993-2004. The "best" equation was
#	determined using the Akaike Information Criterion (AIC). The numbers in the spreadsheet
#	correspond to the following equations:
#
# (1) L = B0 + B1(Q)
# (2) L = B0 + B1(Q) + B2(Q^^2)
# (3) L = B0 + B1(Q) + B2(T)
# (4) L = B0 + B1(Q) + B2(sin(2piT)) + B3(cos(2piT))
# (5) L = B0 + B1(Q) + B2(Q^^2)+ B3(T)
# (6) L = B0 + B1(Q) + B2(Q^^2) + B3(sin(2piT)) + B4(cos(2piT))
# (7) L = B0 + B1(Q) + B2(T) + B3(sin(2piT)) + B4(cos(2piT))
# (8) L = B0 + B1(Q) + B2(Q^^2) + B3(T) + B4(sin(2piT)) + B5(cos(2piT))
# (9) L = B0 + B1(Q) + B2(Q^^2) + B3(T) + B4(T^^2) + B5(sin(2piT)) + B6(cos(2piT))
