#  METADATA Data Description:
#
# ABSTRACT: This data set contains estimates of total and annual nitrate loads in base flow from 1993
#	to 2003 at 3 case study sites in the Missouri River Basin, produced by the S-LOADEST model in 2005.
#	Details on model specification are provided in an appendix of Sprague and others, 2006
#	(SIR 2006-5231). The data were used in a report documenting trends in the Missouri River Basin
#	as part of the U.S. Geological Survey, National	Water-Quality Assessment Program.
#
#  SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
#   	PROCEDURES USED:
#	PROCESS STEP:
# Original concentration and daily mean discharge data were pulled
#	for three sites included as case studies of base flow NOX loading
#	in the analysis of nutrient and sediment trends in the Missouri
#	River Basin. All data retrieved were publicly accessible during
#	January 2005 through NWISweb.
#
#	To maximize data coverage, total and dissolved parameters were
# combined with their dissolved counterparts. Previous comparison
# of paired dissolved and total samples at the USGS National
# Water-Quality Laboratory found that analytical values for
# unfiltered and filtered concentrations were statistically
# indistinguishable (U.S. Geological Survey Office of Water
#	 Quality Technical Memorandum 93.04).
#
#	If a direct measurement of either dissolved or total NOX was not
# available, it was calculated as the sum of total or dissolved nitrite
# (NO2) and total or dissolved nitrate (NO3) as follows:
#	 - if both NO2 and NO3 were censored, NOX was censored to the maximum of the two censoring levels;
#	 - if NO2 was not censored and NO3 was censored, NOX was set equal to NO2;
#	 - if NO2 was censored and NO3 was not censored, NOX was set equal to NO3;
# - if both NO2 and NO3 were not censored, NOX was set equal to the sum of NO2 and NO3.
#
#	The program S-LOADEST within the statistical software package
# S-PLUS was used to estimate loads.
#
#	Daily values of ground-water discharge from the hydrogarph separation program
# PART (Rutledge, A.T., 1998, Computer programs for describing the recession of
# ground-water discharge and for estimating mean ground-water recharge and discharge
# from streamflow records update: U.S. Geological Survey Water-Resources Investigations
# Report 98-4148, 43 p.) were used to estimate loads of NOX in base flow,
# along with surface-water concentrations of NOX on days when the base flow
# was greater than 80 percent of the total streamflow.
