		First National GIS Data Aggregation Request for 2001 Study Units


COVERAGES REQUESTED BY OCTOBER 31, 2003

The purpose of this memorandum is to describe the location and content
of the guidance for the first NAWQA Cycle-II GIS data aggregation from
FY 2001 study units. The purposes of the GIS requests are to update
and populate NAWQA's national GIS data archive. Because the request
may require substantial work on the part of some study unit personnel,
a longer than usual timeline has been provided to accommodate summer
fieldwork, vacation, and other project planning activities.

At this time, National Synthesis is requesting GIS basin boundary
coverages for:

SW/GW Status and Trends sites, 
New LUS and MAS studies sampled in FY02 and FY03
Updated and resampled LUS and MAS studies from FY02 and FY03
Targetted LUS studies sampled in FY02 and FY03
HPGW study areas not previously received
SW Source-Water Quality Assessment sites, and
Selected SW basins as listed in a spreadsheet found on the webpage.

Basin boundaries for topical studies are not included in this request,
and will be deferred until a later date.
   

Guidelines and Procedures

Guidelines, formats and procedures that should be used to prepare and
transmit the requested GIS basin boundaries and metadata are available
at the following URLs. The guidance also lists personnel to contact
for specific questions.
