# REPORT ARCHIVAL DATA SET: camord.shp
#
#	This geospatial data layer is a shape file (polygon) that represents the extent of the Cambrian-
#	Ordovician aquifer system in the states of Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana,
#	and Missouri. It does not include Precambrian Sandstones (Hinckley or Jacobsville Sandstones).
#	There are several areas of Precambrian Crystalline rocks within the boundary of the aquifer system.
#
#	Purpose: These data delineate the areal extent of the Cambrian-Ordovician aquifer system as defined
#	in the 'groundwater Atlas of the United States' (U.S. Geological Survey HA 730). The boundary of the
#	aquifer extent was refined using more detailed State bedrock geology maps (digital versions).
#	The refinement consisted of providing more detailed line work along the northern boundary between
#	Cambrian and Precambrian rocks, and moving the southern boundary to coincide with the Missouri River.

#
#	This geospatial data layer is a shape file (polygon) that represents the extent of the Cambrian-
#	Ordovician aquifer system in the states of Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana,
#	and Missouri. This data set also represents the different areas of regional confinement--confined
#	(aquifer system is buried by Maquoketa Shale and younger bedrock) and unconfined (aquifer system
#	is exposed at the bedrock surface). This data set also represents areas of Precambrian Sandstones
#	and Precambrian Crystalline rocks. Precambrian Sandstones (Jacobsville Ss, Hinckley Ss) are
#	hydraulically connected to and often indistinguishable from Cambrian Sandstones in Michigan and Minnesota.
#	The refinement consisted of providing more detailed linework along the northern boundary between Cambrian
#	and Precambrian rocks, and moving the southern boundary to coincide with the Missouri River. The boundary
#	where the aquifer system is exposed at the bedrock surface or buried by the Upper Ordovician Maquoketa Shale
#	or younger bedrock was refined by editing line work along the boundary of the Maquoketa Shale to more closely
#	match what is on the State geologic maps. In Minnesota, the detail for this boundary was obtained from
#	a digital version of the 1974 King and Beikman map (Scruben and others, 1997).

# REPORT ARCHIVAL DATA SET: camord_hydrochemical_facies.txt
#
#	This data set contains groundwater data from multiple sources (not just NAWQA) for major
#	ions, radionuclides, some physical properties, TDS, and hardness for wells completed in the
#	Cambrian-Ordovician Aquifer System.
#	The major-ion data were converted to milliequivalents per liter (meq/L) in order to determine
#	hydrochemical facies for cations and anions using the methods of or similar to Back (1966).
#
#	Meq/L were calculated using the conversion factors of Hem (1989, table 9).
#
#	Cation facies and anion facies were mapped in the subject report.
#	Cation facies were also used as a grouping variable for determining statistically significant
#	differences in radium-226, radium-228, and radon-222, using those wells that included a
#	value for radium and/or radon-222.
#
#	Samples needed to have a value for alkalinity (or bicarbonate) in order to be used for
#	determining the sum of anions.

#
#	This data set contains groundwater data from multiple sources (not just NAWQA) for
#	radium-226, radium-228, and combined radium for wells completed in the Cambrian-Ordovician
#	Aquifer System in Minnesota.
#	These data were used to map radium concentrations in Minnesota.
#	These data were also used to test for statistically significant differences in concentrations
#	of radium-226, radium-228, and combined radium between samples from the Mount Simon Sandstone
#	and samples from aquifers above the Mount Simon Sandstone.
#
#	NAWQA data were retrieved from the NAWQA Internal Data Warehouse on or about February 13, 2008.
#
#	RASA data were obtained from the data table in the RASA report:
#	Siegel, D.I., 1989, Geochemistry of the Cambrian-Ordovician aquifer system in the Northern
#	Midwest, United States: U.S. Geological Survey Professional Paper 1405-D.
#
#	NWIS data were retrieved from the NWIS database on various dates during 2008 and 2009.
#	Data were obtained from the Minnesota Department of Health (MNDOH) during 2008.
#	USGS samples for radium are filtered, radium samples from the MNDOH are presumed to be unfiltered.

# REPORT ARCHIVAL DATA SET: camord_radium_nawqa.txt
#
#	This data set contains NAWQA groundwater data for radium-226, radium-228, selected major ions and
#	trace elements, and physical properties. Data were used to compute summary statistics for radium
#	in the subject report. These data were also used to test for statistically significant differences
#	in radium concentrations between regional confinement and tritium-based age,
#	and for plotting as boxplots.
#
#	These data were used to show the geochemical relation of radium with selected constituents
#	such as sulfate, TDS, iron, sodium, fluoride, barium, and strontium. These data were also
#	used to show the geochemical relation of radium with the saturation index of selected minerals.
#
#	Radium-226 and radium-228 include left-censored data (non-detections). For these constituents,

# REPORT ARCHIVAL DATA SET: camord_radon_nawqa.txt
#
#	This data set contains NAWQA groundwater data for radon-222, physical properties, TDS, and hardness.
#	Data were used to compute summary statistics for radon-222 in the subject report. These data
#	were also used to test for statistically significant differences in radon-222 concentrations
#	between regional confinement and tritium-based age, and for plotting as boxplots.
#
#	Radon-222 includes left-censored data (non-detections); therefore, parametric summary statistics
#	are based on ROS (Regression on Ordered Statistics).
#
#	Non-detections of radon-222 were recensored to Laboratory Reporting Level, which is the sample-specific
#	minimum detectable concentration (SSMDC).
#

# REPORT ARCHIVAL DATA SET: camord_radon_nawqa_lithology.txt
#
#	This data set contains NAWQA groundwater data for radon-222 samples collected at 50 wells
#	in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Sample dates range from
#	1996 to 2007. These wells are located in the Upper Mississippi River Basin (UMIS)
#	NAWQA study unit.
#
#	This data set also contains data for radon-222 samples collected at 31 wells in
#	eastern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. These wells are located in the
#	Western Lake Michigan Drainages (WMIC) NAWQA study unit.
#
#	Data were used to test for statistically significant difference in radon-222 concentrations
#	in samples from Sandstone and Carbonate aquifers. These tests were done separately for
#	the UMIS and WMIC study areas to eliminate any variable due to geographic location.
#
#--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
# REPORT ARCHIVAL DATA SET: camord_radon_nawqa_resample.txt
#
#	This data set contains NAWQA groundwater data for radon-222 samples collected twice at 29 wells.
#	The first sample date was 1995 or 1996 and the second sample date was 2002.
#	Data were used to evaluate the temporal variability of radon-222 concentrations in the subject report.
#

# REPORT ARCHIVAL DATA SET: camord_trace_nawqa_mdl.txt
#
#	This data set contains NAWQA groundwater data for trace elements that were used to
#	compute summary statistics for the subject report. These data were also used to test
#	for statistically significant differences between regional confinement and tritium-based
#	age, and for plotting as boxplots.
#
#	Some constituents include left-censored data (non-detections). For these constituents,
#	parametric summary statistics are based on ROS (Regression on Ordered Statistics).
#
#	Non-detections were recensored from Laboratory Reporting Levels to Long-Term Method Detection
#	Levels that applied to the sample date
#

# REPORT ARCHIVAL DATA SET: camord_trace_rad_all.txt
#
#	This data set contains groundwater data from multiple sources (not just NAWQA) for
#	trace elements, a few major ions, radionuclides, and physical properties for wells completed
#	in the Cambrian-Ordovician Aquifer System.
#	These data were used to map selected water-quality constituents throughout the aquifer system.
#	These data were also used to test for statistically significant differences in concentrations
#	of selected constituents between regionally confined wells and regionally unconfined wells.
#	Regionally confined areas are defined in this report as being covered by the
#	Upper Ordovician Maquoketa Shale or younger bedrock.
#
#	Sample dates range as far back as 1960 to as recent as 2008.
#
#	USGS samples for trace elements and radium are filtered, as are samples from the ISWS.
#	Trace element and radium samples from all other sources are presumed to be unfiltered.

# REPORT ARCHIVAL DATA SET: trace.summary.code.txt
#
#	This S-PLUS script computes left-censored summary statistics for NAWQA Trace Element data
#	It also computes summary statistics and quantiles for Barium and Strontium which do not have
#	censored data.

# REPORT ARCHIVAL DATA SET: camord_water_use_data.txt
#
#	This data set contains water-use data for those states where the Cambrian-Ordovician aquifer
#	system is used. Data are for the three major categories of use (public supply, self-supplied
#	industrial, irrigation) for which data were compiled by Maupin and Barber (2005). States
#	with water-use data include: Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin.
#
#	Water-use data were used in the introduction of the subject report to show the significance of the
#	aquifer system in those states.
#
#	Data were from the year 2000, and were obtained from Maupin and Barber (2005).
#	The data will be used in a report to characterize the Cambrian-Ordovician Aquifer System
#	as part of the U.S. Geological Survey, National Water-Quality Assessment Program.
